SUBANG JAYA, 25 October 2024 – National carmaker PROTON today signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Grab Malaysia to enhance vehicle options for e-hailing drivers providing exclusive perks when they purchase the Proton Saga. By combining PROTON’s commitment to quality vehicles with Grab’s extensive platform, this collaboration seeks to elevate the driving experience and support the growing needs of the e-hailing industry.

PROTON’s signatory for the MoA was Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, while signing for Grab Malaysia was Rashid Shukor, Director of Country Operations and Mobility. Also present were Edmund Lim Meng Thong, Vice President Sales & After Sales, Proton Edar, and Tan Jiong Jian, Director of Commercial and Deliveries, Grab Malaysia, who acted as witnesses for the signing.

Through this first agreement, PROTON aims to elevate its image in the e-hailing industry via the partnership with Grab Malaysia, whose mobility offerings connect its driver-partners with consumers seeking rides across various multi-modal mobility options, including private cars and taxis. Most importantly, PROTON recognises the significant potential in the e-hailing industry for entry-level models like the Proton Saga where its reliability and affordability make it an attractive choice for drivers.

Since 1985, the Proton Saga has come a long way in serving the nation by providing mobility for generations of Malaysians. Its durability and safety features, crucial points for e-hailing drivers, include ABS, electronic brake distribution, front and rear parking sensors, traction control, an adjustable steering column and a touch screen. With sales surpassing the 2 million mark in May this year, the model is the most popular model in Malaysia’s history and for 2024 the model has registered sales of 54,066 units, a growth of 5% over the previous year.

Its reliability and affordable maintenance costs are important factors for entrepreneurs who use cars as their primary working tools. Additionally, the partnership provides those who take up the offer with exclusive benefits while also supporting our vision to more accessible transportation for Malaysians,” said Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, PROTON.
