“With our imminent entry into Malaysia’s EV market via smart Malaysia just around the corner, the time is right for PROTON to take another step into this rapidly growing segment. We are grateful to have a dynamic partner like Gentari, who have installed the first on-site DC charger at our headquarters and look forward to more such collaborations in the future within our dealer network,” said Roslan Abdullah, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, PROTON.
“We are thrilled to take the next step in our strategic partnership with Proton with the launch of a network of charging facilities to support Proton’s imminent entry into Malaysia’s EV market. Together with Proton, a like-minded national carmaker, our combined efforts can further accelerate the green mobility movement, setting Malaysia on the right path in its energy transition journey. Stay tuned for more initiatives coming out of this strong partnership.,” said Shah Yang Razalli, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Gentari and Chief Executive Officer, Gentari Green Mobility.
Since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Gentari and PROTON new energy subsidiary PRO-NET on 12 October 2022, both companies have explored various solutions to bolster Malaysia’s charging network.
This includes a collaboration between Gentari Green Mobility Sdn Bhd, Proton Global Services and other partners to develop a proof-of-concept for a mobile EV charging solution using the Proton Exora. Three units of proof-of-concept mobile chargers are currently being tested, with each charger offering 30 kW of charging power. Ongoing user studies are in progress to assess the demand for this innovative concept.
PRO-NET is also collaborating with Gentari to install fast chargers at several Proton dealerships. Five additional Gentari DC chargers are set to be installed by the end of 2023 as part of the first phase of the program, with a target of twenty dealerships.
Additionally, four smart Malaysia dealers have also installed DC chargers from other providers ahead of the launch of their first model, the smart #1.
“PROTON has committed to producing our own EV models, a process started by the launch of the mild-hybrid Proton X90, our first new energy vehicle (NEV). This will be followed by more models featuring hybrid technology in the coming years.
“At the same time, we are collaborating with our partners to grow the national charging infrastructure and support our customers. Additionally, we are using connected apps such as the recently launched Hello smart app, which opens access to 70% of the national charging map, to offer convenience to smart owners,” added Roslan Abdullah.
